Banner Artwork File Guide
Print-ready banner artwork · Human preflight · Atlanta production support
Preferred file
Send a print-ready PDF when possible. PDF/X-4 is preferred for modern print workflows because it can preserve transparency and color-managed content. A high-quality print PDF is acceptable when PDF/X-4 is unavailable. The written job specification always controls.
Size and scale
- Build at final finished size, or use one exact documented scale such as 1:10.
- Name the finished width and height in the file name or order notes.
- Do not mix scaled and full-size elements in one file.
- For multi-panel work, supply a placement diagram and identify the intended reading order.
Resolution
For raster images, 150 ppi at final size is a practical starting point for normal banner viewing. Close-view graphics, small text, or fine detail may require higher effective resolution; long-distance work may allow less. Enlarging a low-resolution image does not create detail. DTFATL confirms suitability during preflight.
Bleed and safe area
Use the bleed, trim, and safe-area values in the written quote or proof. Keep critical text, logos, QR codes, and borders inside the safe area and away from hems, grommets, pole pockets, seams, and panel overlaps. There is no universal bleed value for every banner construction.
Fonts, links, color, and transparency
- Embed fonts in the PDF or convert final type to outlines after saving an editable source copy.
- Embed placed images and verify that no link is missing.
- Use vector logos and type when available.
- Supply intended brand colors and a physical reference when exact matching is critical.
- Allow DTFATL to convert color for the selected output process; screen color is not a contract proof.
- Review transparency, overprint, spot colors, rich black, gradients, and fine lines before export.
Finishing safety
Show the intended top edge and orientation. Keep important content clear of finishing zones. State the required grommet spacing, pole-pocket flat size and opening direction, reinforcement, wind slits if specifically requested, seam position, rope, hardware, and installation method. Do not place cut marks, color bars, or notes inside the finished area.
Proof standard
A proof confirms layout, copy, size, orientation, panel order, and finishing placement. It does not guarantee a screen-to-print color match. Production begins only after payment, usable artwork, approval when required, and capacity confirmation. Changes after approval can affect price and timing.
Before upload checklist
- Finished dimensions and scale are documented
- Spelling, dates, phone numbers, URLs, and QR codes are tested
- Images have sufficient effective resolution
- Fonts and linked graphics are embedded or outlined
- Critical content clears all finishing zones
- Color expectations and physical references are identified
- Panel order, orientation, and finishing notes are included
- An editable source file is retained by the customer
