Heat Press Instructions
DTF transfers require commercial-grade pressure and exact temperature control to bond properly with fabric. Follow the universal settings and specific peel instructions below to ensure your prints outlast the garment itself.
Temperature
Set your commercial heat press to exactly 300 degrees Fahrenheit (approx 150° C). Ensure the platen is fully heated before pressing.
Dwell Time
Press the transfer onto the garment for exactly 15 seconds. Do not over-press, as excessive heat can scorch the film or fabric.
Pressure
You must use FIRM pressure (60+ PSI). It should require two hands and significant body weight to close your manual heat press.
🔥 HOT PEEL FILM
-
1Pre-Press The Garment Place the blank garment on the platen and press for 3-5 seconds. This flattens wrinkles and evaporates moisture locked in the fabric.
-
2Press at 300°F for 15 Seconds Align your DTF transfer, cover it with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper, and press with FIRM pressure.
-
3Peel Immediately Once the press opens, wait 2 to 3 seconds, grab a corner of the film, and peel it back in one smooth, continuous motion. Do not hesitate or stop halfway.
-
4Post-Press for 5 Seconds Cover the newly exposed design with parchment paper or Teflon, and press again for 5 seconds. This seals the ink into the fibers for maximum durability and washability.
❄️ COLD PEEL FILM
-
1Pre-Press The Garment Place the blank garment on the platen and press for 3-5 seconds. This flattens wrinkles and evaporates moisture locked in the fabric.
-
2Press at 300°F for 15 Seconds Align your DTF transfer, cover it with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper, and press with FIRM pressure.
-
3Let it Cool Completely Remove the garment from the press and set it aside. Wait until the film is completely cold to the touch. (Pro-tip: Rub the shirt against a cold window or metal table to speed this up). Once cold, peel the film away in a smooth, continuous motion.
-
4Post-Press for 5 Seconds Cover the design with parchment paper or Teflon, and press again for 5 seconds to permanently seal the ink.
Why Didn't It Stick?
Not Enough Pressure
This is the #1 cause of failed transfers. If your press is easy to close with one hand, your pressure is too light. The adhesive needs immense physical force to fuse with the cotton fibers. Easy-Presses and home irons will not work.
Cold Peel Peeled Too Early
If you ordered Cold Peel film and try to rip it off while the shirt is still warm, the adhesive hasn't solidified yet. The ink will stretch, warp, or lift entirely off the shirt. Patience is required.
Skipping the Post-Press
The transfer may look perfect right after you peel the film, but if you skip the 5-second post-press, the ink sits *on top* of the fabric rather than melting *into* it. It will crack or wash out in the laundry.
Pressing FAQ
Can I use a Cricut EasyPress or home iron?
No. Commercial DTF transfers require extreme, even pressure across the entire design simultaneously. Irons and handheld presses cannot generate or distribute enough force to bond the adhesive properly, resulting in peeling after the first wash.
What fabrics can I press these on?
DTF transfers are incredibly versatile. They apply perfectly to 100% Cotton, 100% Polyester, Cotton/Poly Blends, Triblends, Canvas, Denim, and even Leather. Because they press at a lower temperature (300°F), they are much less likely to scorch delicate polyesters.
Do I need to wash the shirt inside out?
For maximum longevity, yes. We recommend washing the finished garment inside out on a cold cycle and tumble drying on low (or hang drying). Avoid using bleach or heavy fabric softeners.
